Virginia K. Novotny

Virginia Kynkor Novotny, 96, died Saturday, May 22, 2021, in the same way she lived—with dignity, grace, and peace. She was a woman of faith and fortitude. Her life was marked by sacrificial love, gratitude, and giving.
Virginia possessed a lifelong love of reading and learning. Despite that, she turned down a four-year college scholarship to find employment and help her family recover from the Great Depression. Such selflessness would mark the rest of her life. She gave to the poor, taught reading to the illiterate, and demonstrated her love in countless acts of service for family, friends, and strangers.
Virginia loved the arts, especially music. She was an accomplished soprano and performed in both theater and opera.
Devoted wife of William J. (dec.); dearest mother of Mary (Judy) Judith Carcione (Frank); William E. (Penny) of Greenville, NC; Rita Gittinger (James); Edward (dec.); Amy Scott (William dec.); Elise Brewka (Francis); cherished grandmother of Michael and Anthony Carcione; Andrew and Bradley (dec.); Matthew Gittinger (Melissa) of Atlanta; Rosemary (fiancé Greg Shuck), Clare, and Anne Brewka; and great-grandmother of Norah and Quinn Gittinger; and sister, Marilyn Yaro.
Preceded in death by parents, Edward and Rose Kynkor; brother, Lawrence; and sister, Ellen.
