Stan Michael Deskar
Stan Michael Deskar, 65, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, March 7, 2018, in the company of his loving wife, Audrey, his children Sara and Ryan, his sister Mary, niece Tina and friend, Faithe.
The nurses at Cleveland Clinic’s Transplant Team helped care for Stan in his last days.
Stan was born in Zagreb, Yugoslavia in 1952. He came to the United States in June, 1962 where he resided in Cleveland, Ohio. He joined the United State’s Air force in February 1973 where he was stationed at McGuire Air force Base in New Jersey. It was there where he met his loving wife, Audrey, the same year. They were inseparable ever since. They married in 1975 and enjoyed 42 years of marital bliss. After leaving the service in 1979, Stan became a relator and worked for Richardson Realty and McGuire-Burke Realty in Hamilton, New Jersey. He then worked as mortgage broker for Common Wealth Mortgage Company. In 1993, he became “Mr. Mom” when Audrey and Stan welcomed their first child, Sara, into the world. A few years later, in 1999, they welcomed a second child, Ryan. He resided in New Jersey with his family until 2013 when he moved back to Ohio to retire.
In his free time, Stan enjoyed giving back to his community and did so in various ways. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross and delivered food for Meals on Wheels. Through St. Gregory the Great Parish in New Jersey, he was a member of the social concerns committee where he visited the sick and assisted those who were homebound and unable to do for themselves. He also opened his home to Bosnian refugees in 1996 after they were released from the Bosnian war. In the summer, you could find him volunteering at the church carnival and he was also a cafeteria volunteer for his children’s school.
Stan was creative and hardworking, even while battling a lung disease. He spent the majority of his time outside where he enjoyed landscaping, building brick patios and decorating their home to meet his wife’s desires. He also enjoyed playing online poker with his sister, Mary and loved having weekly, extravagant family dinners. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing pool with his father-in-law, Gene, and going fishing and bowling. Board games and card games were a weekly occurrence, and Stan always enjoyed having fun and making people laugh even at the end. His sense of humor extended to his final day.
Stan was a loving husband to his wife and an amazing father to his two children. He was also a dedicated brother to his sister, Mary, and uncle to his niece Tina and his nephew’s Marty and Michael. The celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Aurora, Ohio. The family will welcome visitors 1 hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
