Robert Bruce McDonald

Robert Bruce McDonald, “Bob”, 88, passed on Monday, March 27, 2017 at his residence in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Robert, was born February 16, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, the second of two children of Anna Marie Koeppel McDonald and Leo Winibald Mc Donald. Robert attended the John Huntington Institute and Cleveland College at Western Reserve University in Business. He was a huge fan of the Cleveland Public Library for enrichment of intellect and a supporter of educational institutions.

In December of 1950 he married Audrey Dell Mattson McDonald. The United States Army drafted him in 1951. Returning in 1953, he began to successfully rebuild the family business, Metla-Cota Manufacturing into The American Water Science Corporation, a specialist in water treatment with an eight state region. Within the next six years they had three children.

Robert and Audrey had a second home at Chautauqua, N.Y. Much time was spent restoring their Victorian monstrosity, entertaining friends, and enjoying the diverse cultural offerings of Chautauqua Institution. They traveled the world widely, visiting the Middle East, Great Britain, and Europe. Three cross-country trips were taken with each of their grandchildren when they were eight years of age to Washington State, where their Aunt Pamela and Uncle “Scott” resided.

Robert is survived by recent life partner, Lucille “Christy” Boulay, daughters, Pamela Anne Mattson McDonald, Nancy Jane Mc Donald Meinken, and son, Robert Scott McDonald, granddaughter Alexandra Nichole Meinken, grandson Christopher Alexander Meinken, and great-granddaughter Amelia Vera (Solovyova) Meinken. His wife Audrey, older brother John Leo McDonald PhD, and grandson Ryan William Meinken predeceased him. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
