Patricia A. Rindels

Patricia A. (Pat, Patty) Rindels of Solon, born September 29, 1951, passed away May 24, 2023. It is with extreme regret the Rindels family announce the passing of Patricia Rindels on Wednesday, May 24th after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and subsequent complications at the David Simpson Hospice House of the Western Reserve.
Patty faced the challenge of pancreatic cancer with strength, resolve, and a clear-eyed focus taking control of her treatment and the decision to end treatment due to several serious complications and end life with dignity and in comfort as she wished.
Patty was preceded by her parents, Cyril J. and Marjorie C. (Cornell) Pfeifer. Patty is survived by: her husband of 43 years, Harold (Hal), daughter Allison L. (Jay Glenn) of Lakewood,
stepson Andrew M. (Reggie) of Cincinnati whom she thought of and treated like her own son; Siblings Tom Pfeifer (Shirley), Peggy League, Pam Kell, all of Cincinnati, and half-sister Patty Goodwin of Pennsylvania; Grandchildren Grace, Grant, and Jocelyn, all of Cincinnati; plus a host of nieces and nephews.
Patty graduated from Seton High School in Cincinnati in 1969 and went straight to work in a clerical position for a large property / casualty insurance company. Through hard work and her intelligence, she worked her way up to a commercial underwriting position within 5 years. She met Hal at work, and they were married January 19, 1980, in Cincinnati. They immediately moved to Memphis, TN, followed by Nashville, TN, St. Louis, MO, St. Paul, MN over the next eight years before settling in the Cleveland area in 1988. At every stop Patty worked as a commercial underwriter for various large property / casualty insurance companies. In Cleveland she developed expertise in international property / casualty insurance. She became a branch manager for ACE Group and retired from Chubb Group, whom ACE acquired, as a marketing VP. She was well known in the industry and highly respected for her abilities. She was very proud of the fact she was able to accomplish what she did professionally with just a high school degree. Patty enjoyed partying / hanging out with friends and family, golf, playing pool, her flowers on the deck, traveling, Broadway musicals and plays, concerts, a broad range of music and the holidays so she could get the right gift for everyone especially the grandkids. She always joked that she did not like little kids, so she treated kids like people. They always responded and flocked to her. Above all she loved her family dearly. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and their educational and professional accomplishments.
A memorial gathering with hors de oeuvres and drinks, adequate for her send off, will be held Saturday, June 17, from 4-6 PM at Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road, Solon, to celebrate Patty’s life and provide a chance for her friends, neighbors, family, and professional colleagues to meet and trade Patty stories or discuss how she impacted them.
In memoriam, please consider a donation to Hospice of the Western Reserve in Patty’s name. It is a wonderful non-profit institution whose staff provides excellent and compassionate end-of-life care. It was Patty’s wish to spend her last days there and she was just across the hall from where her mother passed away 21 years ago. Please visit: hospicewr.org/Tribute to make a donation in any amount. Please no flowers. Cremation has taken place. Internment will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio, at a later date.
