Helen O. Haus

Helen O. Haus, 97, died peacefully with her daughter Karen by her side, on October 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her siblings Steven Bassa (Helen, deceased), Joseph Bassa (Julie, deceased) and Margaret Zanko (Michael, deceased). Helen was born and spent her entire life in the Cleveland, Ohio area. In school she was an honor student and had the lead in her school’s operetta. In her teen years, she used her beautiful soprano voice to enter and win a local singing contest on the radio.
Helen married the love of her life, Stephen L. Haus, right before he shipped to serve in the army in the European Theatre of World War II. Post war, Helen and Steve raised 2 daughters, Karen M. Haus (Tucker Lee) and Carol S. Haus (deceased). Helen was lovingly devoted to her entire family all her life and was the embodiment of graciousness, gifted with making everyone she met feel welcome and important. She is known as “Auntie” and “Auntie Honey” not only by her nieces and nephews, Michael Zanko (Sharon, both deceased), Peggy Paulson (Robert), Martin Zanko (Yvonne), Kathleen Hoffhine, Joseph Bassa (Debbie), Michael Bassa, Gregory Bassa, but also by their children and many friends.
Helen was an active Board member of the original Solon Players, where she served as Box Office and Group Sales Director for nearly 18 years. She also assisted with Box Office and Group Sales for several years at Aurora Community Theatre.
Helen was a supportive friend and fan of all her family and friends, as well as a kind friend to all animals.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Helen Haus’ memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, The Church in Aurora or Aurora Community Theatre.
Because of COVID-19, there will be a private graveside burial ceremony for family, and a family Memorial service in the future.
