Gisela Wuench

Gisela Wuench passed away January 25th from complications of dementia. As the loving wife and best friend of her husband, Robert L (Larry) Wuench, they saw the world together for 57 years of marriage, traveling more than 40 countries and living in five of them before retiring here, Solon, Ohio from Houston. When people asked her why we would leave Houston for the cold Northeast, her answer was that the older one gets, the better they look with more clothes on.
She was born in 1938 in Neunkirchen, Germany, the daughter of teachers, Wilhelminna and Walter Schmidt. As a graduate of the Technical Institute in Idar-Oberstein with a certificate in accounting, Gisela was employed by the Seventh Army, Fulda, Post Engineers and later the US Army 42nd Finance Group, where she and her husband met.
Gisela was the mother of two loving sons, Stephan (wife Elisa) and Michael, and two grandchildren, Olivia and Thomas, who were the delight of her life. She had been an avid baseball fan, hiker and determined tennis player until the illness sidelined her. As a lifelong Lutheran, her faith was strong. She is survived by one cousin, Ilse Gerhardt of St. Wendel, Germany and Ilse’s son, Marcel.
A private family memorial service is planned, but there will be no public funeral or visitation. A celebration of Gisela’s life will be announced at a later date. No flowers please. Donations to her favorite charity, St. Jude or to the Miracle City Hospice, Broadview Heights, OH may be made in her name.
