Garth Frederick Austin

Garth Frederick Austin passed away on Saturday March 19, 2022. He was born in Williamsport, PA on January 15, 1931 to Victor and Vera (Ford) Austin. Following Vera’s passing in 1934, Garth was then raised by his father and his wife Helen.
He graduated from North Side High School in Corning, NY in 1948. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After returning home from his military service, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ellen (Rhoda) on June 25, 1955. He attended Alfred University where he earned his ceramic engineering degree in 1957 after which he began his 45 year career with Corning Glass Works.
Garth was proceeded in death by his parents; in-laws Merton and Alverta (Applegate) Rhoda; siblings Carl, Charles, and Frank.
He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen (nee Rhoda); dear father of Debra Back nee (Austin), Brenda Austin, and Scott (Lisa) Austin; loving grandfather of Christina (Tony) Miller, Sarah Back, Alec and Becca Austin; cherished great-grandfather of Luca and Haley Miller. Brother to Josephine, Margret, Blanche, and William.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 1:30pm. A celebration of life will be held in the near future, date yet to be determined.
