Barney is survived by his wife, Rosemary, and seven of his nine children. He sponsored three Chinese students and established lasting friendships with their families. Barney spent his life exploring for minerals in iron mines and coal fields throughout the United States, and a brief period in Iran in the 1950s. In retirement, he continued his professional life exploring for gold and silver in Montana. Barney was very active in St. Rita Church, Knights of Columbus, his professional societies, and his political party. His work involved lots of travel, and continued in retirement, as he and Rosemary together traveled the globe. He particularly enjoyed feeding the birds and chasing the squirrels away from the feeders. Barney wearing his Greek Fisherman cap with all the pins was a regular for morning coffee at the Chicago Deli. His twinkling eyes and engaging smile endeared him to all he met. Barney devoted his life to God, to family and to work.
