Joseph Edward Yonish, Jr.

Joseph E Yonish, 10/17/1935- 2/03/2021. Age 85 of Solon, Ohio died peacefully under the care of the wonderful staff on the Assisted Living Unit at Stratford Care in Solon, Ohio with the support of Cross Roads Hospice. He was born October 17th, 1935 in Puritan, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Mildred Yonish. Born and raised in Puritan, Attended German Township High School and graduated in 1953 where he was a star football player and wrestler. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph & Mildred Yonish, sisters Betty (Desko), Mildred “Sissy”(Koshar), Anna(Koshar), Dorthy “Streak” (Blasinsky), and brother Robert “Whitey” (Yonish). He leaves behind his loving wife Eleanor of almost 63 years of marriage, their children Jackie (of Solon) and Joseph (of Streetsboro), and 5 grandchildren Jennifer, Joseph, Kevin, Christopher and Sarah. Also, his Sister Helen (Marks), Brother Rich (Yonish), many Nieces, Nephews and dear friends.
Joe was an avid lover of football, from playing in high school, to coaching for CYO for countless years, to cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers every Sunday! And if the Steelers were playing you knew where to find him, down at his basement bar surrounded by family and friends.
Joe worked at the Ford Motor Company Walton Hills Stamping plant for 30 years (UAW420). After retirement Joe enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and traveling with his wife. His favorite place was Myrtle Beach where he was known as the “Mayor”. He was a member of St. Rita church in Solon for 49 years.
Joe also took great pride in his yard, cutting his grass at least twice a week and his vegetable garden.
The family will receive friends at Church of The Resurrection, Saturday, February 6, from 11:30am-12:30pm for viewing and Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:30pm, Joe will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery in Solon.
